JoAnn I love the bits about the Young Pope (haven’t watched Sinners yet, saving this for afterwards). What do you think of the New Pope, if you’ve watched it? i am, like you, an atheist (or agnostic? idk) lapsed catholic, and i love connecting with like minded people on these cultural pieces, especially in the wake of Pope Francis dying.

It's been a couple years since I've seen The New Pope, but I think the series is strongest when it reflects on the leadership styles of both popes (ie, radical conservative vs the Middle Way vs something new with Voiello), and Jude Law and John Malkovich are great in scenes together. The cinematography was also quite beautiful. I haven't practiced religion in many years, but I could see how someone might find God with the beautiful way both series filmed the Vatican. However, I think there were too many storylines and a lot of the good things get muddled.
